Strange 02:57
Strange So I see you and I catch your eye Can’t ignore you as the years go by Plastic raincoat patent leather shoes Always looking like you’re born to lose So take it easy baby – O take it slow I’ve no particular place to go You wind me up it’s such a horror show Sure is strange – O so strange Lost among the multi-colored suits Summer blonde but oh so black at the root Kicking hard but you can never win Times have changed and they won’t come back again So take it easy baby – take it slow I’ve no particular place to go You want to rock but you ain’t got no roll Sure is strange – O so strange

Home 03:24
Home Outside the storm is slowly raging Facing another night alone Inside you measure out the moments Can’t shake that feeling from your bones Home is a place if you can find it Home getting further day by day Home where they always will accept you Where is home? Where is home? Looks like we’re in for nasty weather Feels like the sun will never shine You’d better get yourself together Find your own comfort peace of mind Home is a place if you can find it Home getting further day by day Home where they always will accept you Where is home? Where is home?
3.
The Lucky Ones If you are ever in doubt Shattered and feeling worn out Kicking your way through the thick and the thin Time to start over again So take a new photograph Re-write your epitaph Sit back and have a laugh Send them to me Know when the day is done Under the dying sun We are the lucky ones Alive and free Down all the days and the nights Damn all the wrongs and the rights Chasing your fears – facing them down Scattered they lay on the ground You don’t need a visa then To prove where you may have been Call when you need a friend There in the end
4.
Summer’s Gone Stepping out on timeless days We were spellbound and amazed Ate the sweets and drank the wine High on sugar and sunshine - sunshine But summer’s gone - yeah summer’s gone Slipped away before we woke up at dawn So raise a glass - sing your song For summer’s gone - yeah summer’s gone Down the alleys the backways In the sunlight’s golden age You brought me joy then with your smile Lying with you for awhile - for awhile But summer’s gone - yeah summer’s gone Slipped away before we woke up at dawn So raise a glass - sing your song For summer’s gone – yeah summer’s gone
5.
Burns A Light Through the darkness Burns a light that shines so bright You and I will find our way Though these mad days Lean on me I’m here always You and I will find our way There is magic I’ll believe if you believe You and I will find our way O this loneliness Happiness I must confess Isn’t easy to find Try not to be so surprised You know I’m here by your side In this wasteland I could never understand All the things I have seen To the far side We can make it if we try You and I will find our way
6.
No Resistance Ohhhhh Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh I’m in love no resistance Ohhhhh Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh I’m in love Skip the lights completely Skip the lights all night long Run the reds - hurry to me: you know I could never let you down Swear or wear that thorny crown I’d never break your sacred heart Ahhhhhh Ahhhh Ahhhh Ahhhh I’m in love no resistance Ohhhhh Ohhhh Ohhhh Ohhhhh I’m in love I’ll wait for you ‘till the sunrise I’ll set a watch all night long I’ll see you there right before me – you know Time has never tarnished you Left a mark or scar on you We’ll be together in the end
7.
In Everything Who knows where you’ll go Up above or down below In everything How high your spirit flies Let it soar and let it rise In everything Said you had seen it all Shook your fist and stood so tall In everything Tripwire through the door Live forever, live no more In everything Waking up you’re waiting for the world to end Looking for something to hold on to Then you’ve got to let it all begin again Until it feels alright Under the pale moonlight Who knows where you’ll go Up above or down below In everything I heard your solemn cry To the earth and sky In everything

Morning Rain 03:25
Morning Rain Stop the rain outside – stop it from falling Monday morning rain – safe here inside In this house that’s filled with ghosts and memories Wishing you were here right by my side I hear your knock at my window – at my window But will I find - that it’s just the morning rain Stop the rain outside – stop it from falling Monday morning rain – safe here inside In this house that’s filled with ghosts and memories Wishing you were here right by my side I hear your knock at my window – at my window But will I find - that it’s just the morning rain Will you come back? Have you come back?
9.
No Need to Pretend Why do we lie there’s no need to pretend Why do we fight no one wins in the end I’ll walk on by if I see you again So I’ll let go – I will let go I spend the day reflecting on all I knew The good the bad everything we’ve been through A country walk the river soft sunlight glow I watch it flow – I watch it flow There’s something about you – I just don’t know Maybe one fine day – you’ll let your feelings show Let your feelings show Why do we lie there’s no need to pretend Why do we fight no one wins in the end I’ll walk on by if I see you again So I’ll let go – I will let go Oh no-o-o-o-o I will let go, I will let go No need to pretend No need to pretend No need to pretend

No Direction 07:31
No Direction Out in the wind and the rain Fatigued I’m walking on home Winding my way through these streets Far to go – miles to go Sobering spray cuts my face Angry the river will rise Boots click along ancient stone So alone – so alone Out in the cold now with no direction Stare in a glass at my own reflection Stranger I see In front of me – in front of me Drifting through rain-soaked debris Mud on these soaking wet jeans Slowly I move through these streets Seldom seen – never seen Out in the cold now with no direction Stare in a glass at my own reflection Stranger I see In front of me – in front of me Where do you go when the lights have all gone out? Where do you go when the streets have all cleared out? Only yourself now to blame No one remembers your name Where do you go when the last light’s burning so low?

Hit the Brakes Down the dark road Won’t you tell me where you go? All the secrets you know Your hiding place Speeding so fast You got no future – got no past I don’t think we’re going to last More than one day Please hit the breaks There’s no margin for mistakes Before we wake One last kiss Through the dark trees I am ready at ease Bow to your pleasure please You hold the keys Where to begin Always lose never win Got you under my skin Under my skin Tied to the mast Now this ship is sinking fast Are we the drowned? Going down
12.
The Moment 03:12
The Moment I’ve seen so many things in my time And I’ve dreamed – hoped we could leave this behind Is this the moment when it all ends? Is this the moment when it begins? I’ve seen so many things to be done And I’ve hoped there’d be a better outcome Is this the moment when it all ends? Is this the moment when it begins?

Over You 02:26

Hand in Hand 04:22
Hand In Hand I can see now the rain is gone Moon rising – reflected sky I look out from my lonely room To see the traffic die I can see now the crowds have gone In silence a quiet night Caresses – when you’re next to me And all the world is right Falling down - I’ll see things your way Hand in hand - maybe someday Falling down – I’ll see things your way Hand in hand – maybe someday We’ll walk hand in hand Like we used to do We’ll walk hand in hand Like we used to do

Can’t Hide Can’t Run Away I get a certain feeling Somewhere deep, deep inside And when I see her walking The clouds go rolling by Memory – I still recall And when I’m not with her I’m nowhere at all I get a certain feeling Somewhere deep, deep inside I drift along her wake now Her ever changing tides Memory – I’ve seen it all And when I’m not with her I’m nowhere at all And when I’m not with her I’m nowhere at all I can’t hide I can’t run away I can’t hide I can’t run away I get a certain feeling Somewhere deep, deep inside Here comes a revelation No need to wonder why Memory – I still recall And when I’m not with her I’m nowhere at all

about

L&J Illuminated (Leigh and Jefferson) have been going through demos over the past couple of years and picking out the best songs to record for our first record. We’ve gone through over 30 songs at this point and still have a batch to go before we really sort things out. We are posting some of the home demos of the songs so you can get a better idea of what we’ve been working on. These are just the rough demos, with an occasionally unprogrammed drum machine, but you can get a pretty good idea of where we are at with a listen here.

about

L&J Illuminated San Francisco, California

L&J Illuminated were formed by fellow guitarists Leigh Gregory and Jefferson Parker, both friends from the San Francisco music scene since the early 2000s. Sharing a mutual love for great songwriting and twin guitar bands, L&J have been going through material, playing an occasional live show, and choosing which song demos we’d like to record once we get into the studio. ... more
